In 2018, City Furniture was a promising, modest-sized business, but when the pandemic hit, and many companies scaled back, City Furniture made the opposite decision, and pushed forward. At the beginning of the pandemic, City Furniture attempted to gain market share by building out a modern data infrastructure that included a logical data fabric enabled by the Denodo Platform. That decision paid off, and by the end of 2021, City Furniture had grown its employee base and driven its revenue up to nearly a billion.

Because of the company’s drive, and subsequent success, with logical data fabric, City Furniture named the winner of the Denodo DataFest 2021 Data Innovation Award.

In this presentation, Ryan Fattini, Director of Data Engineering at City Furniture, will tell the City Furniture story.

You will learn:

  • What comprised the City Furniture data infrastructure in 2018, and the challenges that the company faced at that time
  • How City Furniture implemented a change data capture (CDC) solution to implement real-time data feeds, though challenges remained
  • Why City Furniture moved forward with a Denodo Platform implementation right at the beginning of the pandemic lockdowns
  • How the data fabric enabled by the Denodo Platform seamlessly unified disparate systems
  • How City Furniture “weaponized” key capabilities of the Denodo Platform: The REST API, the Data Catalog, the Scheduler, VQL, and GraphQL
